This generative visual identity system for the rebranding of The Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) was submitted as part of DESN6002 - Foundations of Creative Code at The Australian National University (2018, Semester 1).
THE PROBLEM
The Australian National Botanic Gardens is home to “the world’s most comprehensive display of living Australian native plants. A place for recreation, inspiration, science and learning.” However, as a venue for education, discovery, rest, and stimulation, the existing logo and branding don’t emulate the beauty and the wealth of information that the colourful floras in ANBG behold. This desire to engage and educate the visitors of the garden served as the main purpose of our rebranding.
From our research, we stumbled upon the “Floral Emblems of Australia - Education Kit” which contains information about the national, state and territory floral emblems. The education kit aims to enhance the learning experience of the visitors telling them the history and description of each of the nine floral icons. The floral emblems, particularly the national flower - the golden wattle, became the major elements of the dynamic identity.
